Belgian MQ-9B Deploys in Mediterranean for NATO Operations

Belgian Air Force's MQ-9B SkyGuardian supports NATO missions in the Mediterranean Sea between May and July 2026, marking a significant international operational deployment.

The Belgian Air Force has initiated the international operational deployment of its MQ-9B SkyGuardian system, a pivotal step for NATO's Mediterranean operations. The deployment, part of Operation Silent Spear, involves an MQ-9B from the 2nd Squadron ‘Comet,’ positioned at the naval air base in Sigonella, Sicily, from May to July 2026.

The insertion of the MQ-9B SkyGuardian into the operational theater represents an enhancement of NATO’s capabilities in maintaining maritime security. As part of NATO's Sea Guardian and Noble operations, this deployment will bolster surveillance, reconnaissance, and intelligence gathering over the Mediterranean, a critical region for European security.
