Greece Allocates Over €1 Billion for Defense Procurements

The Greek Parliament commits substantial funding towards advanced military capabilities, including unmanned systems.

The Hellenic Parliament has approved over €1 billion in defense procurements aimed at strengthening Greece's military capabilities. This includes the acquisition of ten VICTA Diver Delivery Units from SubSea Craft and ten V-BAT reconnaissance vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones from Shield AI. The funding decision was finalized on June 11, 2026, by the Special Permanent Committee on Armament Programs and Contracts.

Greece's decision to invest in advanced military technology reflects growing security concerns in the Eastern Mediterranean region. With escalating tensions and a need for enhanced surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, the addition of VICTA units and V-BAT drones will bolster Greece's operational readiness. These systems are expected to provide significant strategic advantages in maritime and aerial operations.

The VICTA Diver Delivery Units are designed for covert underwater operations, allowing special forces to deploy effectively. In parallel, the V-BAT drones offer robust reconnaissance capabilities with their ability to operate in contested environments. This integration of cutting-edge technology enhances critical response times and situational awareness for Greek forces.

The financial commitment of over €1 billion also signifies Greece’s ongoing efforts to modernize its military forces amidst regional instability. By enhancing its defense procurement strategy, Greece aims to ensure deterrence and operational effectiveness in response to the evolving security landscape.

As these systems are delivered and integrated, they are expected to improve Greece’s defense posture significantly, potentially altering the balance of power in the region. Monitoring the operational deployment of VICTA units and V-BAT drones will be crucial in assessing their impact on Greek defense capabilities.
