Overview
The Chonma-ho ('Flying Horse') is North Korea's most widely produced indigenous main battle tank, developed from the Soviet T-62 with modifications. Introduced in the 1980s, it has gone through multiple variants with incremental improvements including ERA packages on later versions. While the design is fundamentally based on 1960s Soviet technology, North Korea maintains a large production capacity and substantial inventory. The tank lacks modern fire control, thermal imaging, and protection systems that define contemporary MBT standards.
