Country of Origin: Germany
Manufacturer: Rheinmetall
First Deployed: 2011
Overview
Modular, Automatic and Network-capable Targeting and Interception System — a Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) system providing fixed-site protection against indirect fire threats. Comprises 6x 35mm Oerlikon Millennium Gun rapid-fire cannon stations (each firing 1,000 rounds/minute of AHEAD ammunition), 2x sensor units with X-band search/track radar and EO/IR sensors, and a central command post. The system autonomously detects incoming projectiles, calculates intercept solutions, and engages threats with AHEAD airburst rounds — all within seconds of detection. Effective range of 3 km against RAM threats. Deployed by the Bundeswehr at Camp Marmal in Afghanistan, providing proven protection against rocket and mortar attacks. Also serves as the technology basis for the Skynex and Skyranger programmes.
