Overview
The MKEK MPT-55 (Milli Piyade Tüfeği — National Infantry Rifle) is a 5.56×45mm NATO assault rifle developed domestically by MKEK to replace the aging G3 7.62mm rifles in Turkish military service. It features a standard NATO STANAG magazine, Picatinny rail system for optics and accessories, and adjustable stock. The MPT-55 complements the heavier MPT-76 (7.62mm), with the 5.56mm variant intended for general infantry distribution providing lighter weight and higher ammunition capacity. Together the MPT family represents Turkey's break from foreign small arms dependency.
