SISFRON Integrated Border Surveillance System

BrazilSaab ABRadar SystemIntroduced:2015
SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Brazilian integrated border surveillance system providing monitoring and control of vast land borders using sensors, communications, and command-and-control — representing one of world's largest surveillance programmes covering 16,800+ km of borders. SISFRON (Sistema Integrado de Monitoramento de Fronteiras) addresses challenges of monitoring remote Amazon rainforest borders, preventing drug trafficking, illegal mining, environmental crimes, and illegal immigration. Developed jointly by Brazilian Army, Saab Brazil, and domestic industry with phased deployment from 2014 onwards. Features network of fixed and mobile sensors including ground surveillance radars detecting movement at 20+ km, electro-optical/infrared cameras providing identification, acoustic sensors, seismic sensors, unattended ground sensors, and communication relay towers connecting remote locations. Central command centers integrate sensor data displaying real-time situational awareness. Mobile units with vehicle-mounted sensors provide rapid deployment capability. Integration with Brazilian UAVs (Hermes 450, Hermes 900) providing aerial surveillance. Satellite communications enable operations in areas without infrastructure. The system enables border units to detect and intercept illegal activities in otherwise unmonitored areas. Particularly critical in Amazon region where dense jungle prevents visual observation. Expansion ongoing with additional sensor sites, increased UAV integration, and artificial intelligence for automatic threat detection. Represents Brazilian commitment to sovereignty and border security despite enormous territorial challenges. Technology transferable to other large nations with remote borders.
