BrahMos-NG (Next Generation)
Type: Ballistic Missile (ICBM)
Domain: air
Country of Origin: India / Russia
Manufacturer: BrahMos Aerospace
Overview
Miniaturised variant of the BrahMos cruise missile, designed to be approximately 50% lighter and smaller than the original while maintaining supersonic speed. Weight reduced from 2,500 kg to 1,500 kg, enabling internal carriage by smaller aircraft including the Tejas Mk1A/Mk2, potential deployment on unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs), and increased weapon loads on larger aircraft like the Su-30MKI (which can carry only one standard BrahMos externally). The BrahMos-NG retains Mach 3+ speed and expected range of 290+ km with a smaller warhead (150-200 kg). The reduced size enables versatile multi-platform deployment while maintaining the lethality and penetration capability that makes BrahMos unique. Development began in 2016 with first test expected in the mid-2020s. BrahMos-NG will significantly expand the operational flexibility of India's supersonic cruise missile capability.
