Peru procured the KAI KT-1P (Woongbi) turboprop basic/advanced trainer under a licence assembly arrangement with South Korea, with aircraft assembled by SEMAN (Servicio de Mantenimiento) at Las Palmas Air Base. Peru received approximately 20 KT-1P aircraft. The type replaced the older T-37 Tweet in the advanced training role. It features a 950 shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-62 turboprop, modern glass-cockpit avionics, and 6 hardpoints for weapons including rockets, gun pods, and bombs in the light attack configuration. The SEMAN assembly agreement provided industrial employment and technology transfer benefits.
