Armed with Mk 41 VLS for ESSM and VL-ASROC, 8x Type 17 anti-ship missiles, 1x Mk 45 Mod 4 127mm gun, SeaRAM CIWS, and torpedo tubes. Features the OPY-2 AESA multi-function radar and OQQ-25 sonar system. 22 ships planned — the largest JMSDF surface combatant programme in decades.
