Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 3
The most advanced production variant of the multinational Eurofighter Typhoon, a twin-engine delta-canard 4.5-generation multirole combat aircraft. Tranche 3 features the Captor-E AESA radar, conformal fuel tanks, enhanced computing architecture, and full air-to-ground capability including integration of Brimstone, Storm Shadow, and Paveway IV munitions. Powered by twin EJ200 turbofans producing 60 kN dry / 90 kN with afterburner each. Capable of supercruise at Mach 1.1 without afterburner. Over 600 aircraft delivered across four partner nations with additional export customers including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman.

- Captor-E AESA radar provides significant sensor upgrade over earlier tranches
- Supercruise capability and high thrust-to-weight ratio for superior air combat
- Wide weapons compatibility including Meteor (100km+ BVR) and Storm Shadow cruise missile
- Large European user base ensures long-term industrial support and interoperability
- Proven in combat operations (Libya, Syria/Iraq)
- Higher operating cost than single-engine competitors (Gripen, F-16)
- Multi-nation consortium structure slows upgrade decision-making
- Air-to-ground capability added later; not as mature as dedicated strike platforms
- Being superseded by GCAP/Tempest in UK planning; investment focus shifting

SIGN INCombat management system interoperability with allied platforms is where this design pays dividends in coalition operations.
Network integration allows this platform to function as a sensor node as much as a strike platform.
Sensor suite integration on this hull class gives it anti-submarine capability well above its tonnage class.
Pilot workload reduction through automation is the real capability leap here, not just raw performance numbers.
The hull form indicates a deliberate choice for sea-keeping over sprint speed — correct priorities for sustained operations.

The maintenance burden per flight hour will determine whether these numbers hold in extended operations.
