9K515 Tornado-S
The 9K515 Tornado-S is Russia's modernised 300mm multiple launch rocket system replacing the BM-30 Smerch. Mounted on a MAZ-543M 8x8 wheeled TEL, it fires 12× 300mm rockets including the guided 9M544 (90 km, GLONASS, 5m CEP) and 9M549 (120 km, GLONASS/MEMS) variants alongside standard unguided rockets. The GLONASS-guided variants provide HIMARS GMLRS-comparable precision at extended range. Digital fire control enables autonomous mission planning. Russia has used Tornado-S extensively in Ukraine for counter-battery fire and strikes on logistics/command facilities.

- 120km guided range vs 90km Smerch
- GLONASS terminal guidance on 9M542
- 12 guided rockets per salvo
- Cluster and thermobaric warheads
- Can target GPS-denied environments
- Large signature vehicle 43t
- GLONASS jamming vulnerability
- Expensive per guided round
- Western sanctions limiting spare parts

SIGN INMobility cross-country is more operationally significant than top speed on paved surfaces. This platform understands that.

The avionics suite on this platform sets a new benchmark for sensor fusion. Integration with other nodes is the key differentiator.
