FM-90 Short-Range Air Defense
The FM-90 is a Chinese short-range air defense system developed by CPMIEC, based on the French Crotale design acquired through technology transfer. Using an eight-cell launcher and dedicated target tracking radar, it can engage low-altitude aircraft and helicopters at ranges up to 15 km. The truck-mounted mobile configuration allows rapid redeployment to protect key assets. Bangladesh operates FM-90 systems for point and area air defense of critical infrastructure, airfields, and ground force formations against aircraft and slow-moving aerial threats including helicopters and early generation UAVs.

- Crotale-based design with proven concept
- Effective against low-altitude aircraft and helicopters
- Mobile platform for rapid redeployment
- Low cost vs. Western equivalents
- Very limited 15 km range
- Outdated guidance system technology
- Limited ECM resistance
- Inadequate against modern UAVs and cruise missiles
- Slow reaction time vs. modern threats

SIGN INPilot workload reduction through automation is the real capability leap here, not just raw performance numbers.

Mobility cross-country is more operationally significant than top speed on paved surfaces. This platform understands that.
