ST-100 / ST-500 MRAP Family
Egyptian indigenously-developed mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle family representing domestic response to IED and mine threats in Sinai operations. ST-series (Sinai Truck) developed by Egyptian Military Production Ministry with ST-100 (4x4 lighter variant) and ST-500 (6x6 heavier variant) providing scalable protected mobility. Features V-shaped monocoque hull directing blast energy away from crew compartment, mine protection for specified threat levels, ballistic protection against small arms and shell fragments, capacity varying by variant (8-12 personnel), remote weapon station (.50 cal or 7.62mm), independent suspension, and diesel propulsion. ST-500 provides greater payload and protection versus ST-100. Egyptian ST-series extensively deployed in Sinai counter-terrorism operations providing force protection for convoys, patrols, and security missions where IED threat significant. Indigenous development critical as foreign MRAP procurement expensive and potentially subject to restrictions. Domestic production enables rapid fielding without export approval delays. Combat-proven in harsh Sinai environment. Continuous improvements based on operational feedback including enhanced armor, communications, and air conditioning for desert operations. Potential export to regional partners facing similar threats. Represents successful Egyptian defense industrial response to urgent operational requirements.
